Sanath: Finest ODI allrounder finishes glittering career

Sanath Jayasuriya couldn't bring the curtain down on his glorious international career with the type of swashbucking display that characterised his 22 years as a Sri Lanka player.

41 year old Jayasuriya returned to The Oval to play the final match of his career — a one-dayer against but was out for 2. Playing in his 445th ODI, Jayasuriya was given a standing ovation as he departed.

It was in the 1996 World Cup that Jayasuriya revolutionized opening batsmanship. In the quarterfinal clash against England, Jayasuriya’s brutal knock is perhaps the most lethal innings in the minds of the bowlers in the history of limited overs cricket.
